A dream was fulfilled, this past Monday. L lost a tooth AT SCHOOL! Of course he didn't lose the tooth that is dangling by a thread; it was one I barely knew was loose. He wasn't sure he wanted the Tooth Fairy to take it, so he hid it. Thankfully, the Tooth Fairy (after a looonnng search) found it & was able to leave money anyway. She's cool like that. ;)
Little did she know that L had written her a note the following day. It reminded her of a "Dear Abby" note. On a small piece of yellow notebook paper & in the cutest, first grade handwriting, it said:
Dear toothfreeryI want monybut I wantmy toothtoobut I gotmony alllre-ady so I h-ave to trunit in Whatshud I do.
He had folded it and placed it under his pillow.
The next morning, he was disappointed when it wasn't gone. He told Chad: "No response!"
Once she was aware of his note (she found it, the day after he wrote it), she knew she'd answer him. However, the day got away from her. Then, she unintentionally fell asleep well before her typical night owl hours. Bad fairy.
Around 5a.m., the Tooth Fairy's memory was jogged, by Chad. He remembered "the note".
Me: "I can't write it; he'll know my handwriting. You write it."
Chad: "What do I write?"
Me: "Thank him for the nice note & tell him that he can keep the tooth this time, but next time he'll need to trade in his tooth for the money. Oh, and say she's sorry the note is late; it's been a busy week."
Since it was 5a.m., it felt like it took hours for the note to be written. Once completed, Chad handed it to me. I read it:
DEAR L,
THANK YOU FOR THE NICE NOTE. USUALLY I TAKE THE TEETH WITH ME, BUT THIS TIME I WILL LET YOU KEEP THIS ONE. FOR YOUR NEXT TOOTH, I WILL PLAN TO TAKE IT.
TOOTH FAIRY
Me: "Hmm...Why didn't you just write the words I said? It sounds kinda harsh to end it with a plan to just take the next tooth. I wanted it to sound sweet."
Chad: "Katie, that's why guys aren't tooth fairies."
Well, we just started cracking up! He said he was more like the Tooth Dude & basically this was how Tooth Dudes roll. More laughing (but trying to be quiet, so we didn't wake the kids).
Finally, the Tooth Dude delivered a new, gentler note in stealth fashion. With no creatures stirring, the mission was accomplished successfully.
Once the Tooth Dude returned from his mission, we discovered that we were now wide awake...and more than capable of coming up with a numerous amount of alternative tooth fairy names for guys. Tooth Wrangler, Tooth Gnome, TG (Tooth Guy) were just a few of what sent us into fits of laughter that made it difficult to breathe. Yep...things are obviously funnier in the wee, small hours of the morning.
It appears that more of L's baby teeth are super wiggly. The one that's been dangling by a thread is now dangling even more, if that's possible. It is one stubborn tooth, I'll tell ya. Crazy how it wouldn't budge, when we tried to pull it, Thursday evening. It was while working on that tooth, that I noticed he had two other loose teeth. I told him he'd be a toothless wonder, soon. I think he has a pretty excellent chance of losing another tooth, at school...maybe even tomorrow. Man, that would be TWO times in one week...more than a dream come true!! ;)
The Tooth Fairy & the Tooth Dude better be prepared; they have a lot of work ahead of them. Thankfully, they love their job. It's a pretty sweet deal.

Update 4/8/11 around 1:30p.m.: The dangling-by-a-thread tooth finally committed to leaving it's cozy space in L's gums. His teacher informed me via email, this morning, and said that his dreams did come true. He has his second tooth necklace of the week & is on cloud nine! Hooray, because that tooth was beginning to be a stomach churner, for sure. Oh, I just can't wait to see his cute, toothless grin! What a fun week for him!
