Many of you have read this, before now. However, it's a fun memory, and I want to record it on the blog, for the kids. J was three & it was just another ordinary, December day at home.
Stable Story
So, it's that time of year again...Christmas!! Time to haul out the holly and much to my boys' delight: The Nativity sets. ***whistles and cheers*** You may remember a little story about our family and those nativity sets last year. The boys play with the sets made for kids. I'm happy to report that I haven't had to ask anyone to stop fighting over Baby Jesus...yet. ;)
Our youngest lovingly refers to the nativity sets as either "The Joseph stuff" or "The Jesus stuff". Today, he asked me if I'd play with him and the Joseph stuff. He instructed that I would be the three wise men (which until I called them that, he thought they were all a version of a grown up Jesus). He declared that he would be Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus. Play time went a little something like this:
Wise men: "Hi! We're the wise men. We're here to visit Baby Jesus! We each brought a gift."
WM#1: "I brought you some gold."
WM#2: "I brought you some incense"
WM#3: "I brought you some myrrh."
Mary & Joseph: "Oh! He loves those things!"
WMen: "Great!"
M & Jo: "Could you guys watch him for awhile, while we go somewhere?"
WMen (surprised at the twist in the story): "Where are you going?"
M & Jo: "To the store."
WMen: "Why are you going to the store?"
M & Jo: "To get milk and orange juice."
Joseph gave one last reminder: "Watch him (Jesus) so he doesn't walk away. If he walks away, I'll go find him."
WMen: "Can he do that? He's a new baby."
Jo: "He might. Try to block him."
Even though the wise men diligently surrounded the manger, Baby Jesus did walk away, much to the wise men's surprise and wonder! Then it became a game of Jesus walking away (manger and all) and all the others going to find him and bring him back to the stable. Finally, Mary and Joseph returned from the store. It took awhile. After all, they had to walk and they had to keep coming back and forth from the store to search for the baby in the manger. Joseph immediately asked, "Did he walk away, while we were gone? Is he thirsty?"
It was an entertaining stable story...at least to me. I don't think I could love a child's imagination more. :)
